Hello

We are considering the FF program.

But at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_needs/1404117-Fast-ForWord-has-anyone-tried-this-programme-for-language-disorder#add_message I read about AIT.

I was wondering if anyone with experience with both esp AIT would please provide feedback?

Is there a provider/providers that could be recommended, pref in the West Midlands.

Such a lot is available out there that it can be difficult to distinguish between what is genuine and what is not.

Thank you.

I’m in a similar boat - looking at all that is out there and trying to decide. My nine year old son with ASD, adhd and probably dyslexia did Fast ForWord intensively (ie, two sessions a day rather than one) during the first lockdown and the summer for about 4.5 months. I can say it quite definitely made a difference. He was calmer and noticeably more in control of his emotions, much much less reactive, able to engage in a process. I remember how stunned I was when he wanted to make a cake and instead of insisting on his own recipe, he found a really recipe and followed it. He became a pleasure to have around - it was like he became the person he always had been without the additional issues. We started going to playgrounds towards the end of the summer and every single day he would hook up with a child or a group of children for the duration. One boy came running back to ask for his phone number when he had to leave. We were also doing dyslexia tutoring separately and it seemed to give a real boost. The difference between where is is now with reading and writing and where he was a year ago is amazing. Some of it is the dyslexia tutoring but some of it is Fast ForWord.

Sadly, my son seems to be slipping back into some of the ways he was before he started the programme. He’s more hyper and reactive, though some of the gains remain. I think a lot of that is to do with the stress of school. He was definitely calmer over the recent lockdown and has become more stressed since returning to school.

I am looking into trying AIT. It is short and apart from the cost there doesn’t seem to be any reason why not to try it. I’m sorry I can’t provide any feedback on it. There’s so much out there and I’m just in the process myself of trying to figure out what to try.

We did the AIT for one of my children. I was shocked at the results! It worked but they were only short-lived

We did AIT at the Sound Learning Centre which was very intense. I have mentioned but results were great but short lived... however the DC has a long term liking to music (which he wasn't before).
