Hello all
Does anyone know if there is any help out there for children's sensory issues around food. My son is at a special needs school but they don't seem to be helping him with this. Probably because his weight is ok. He has issues trying new things and we need to add more things to his diet. Worried about him staying healthy with the diet he has.
Thanks
Lara

Hi @laralou28
Over many years we have had these same problems. Our tactic was to try everything, make all sorts of different meals until you hit winners. Also put all sorts of singular foods in front of him but not expecting anything, when he does eat these it’s a golden moment.
Also once it gains momentum record these in a book for later use. Another thing, ask school to keep a food diary, I found out our son was eating all sorts of stuff at school we had no idea about and quickly brought those into the home kitchen.
I tried for years to get our son to eat what I wanted him to eat
and realised this was a loosing battle and I was going about this the wrong way. I really needed to find and focus on what he was going to eat but introducing new things at the same time. I know it can take time and it is really frustrating. Can you describe what he currently likes to eat?

Hi sorry I have only just seen this. Sort of things my son eats. A lot of bread sandwiches, wraps, bagels, toasties etc. Breadsticks, smoothies, chocolate buttons, yogurts, chicken nuggets, dippers, pizza, beans and sausages, waffles, chips, carrots, Yorkshire puddings, spag Bol is his fave or tomato pasta. If I put a new thing in front of him he will have a strop and storm off. He says he hates the smell of a lot of stuff. I've tried so many different things but i hate upsetting him so much. He doesn't eat well at school either and they've tried different things to help him. (He goes to a special needs school)
