Hi can anyone recommend an ABA/VB therapist that would be prepared to travel to Ilford/Newbury Park area?
Many Thanks

ABA has been linked to PTSD in autistic adults.

I would recommend you don't put your child in ABA therapies whatsoever - it's a very controversial therapy and has been shown to do little help to the actual autistic person, it's linked to PTSD and other mental health issues, and only causes problems further down the line. Smile

I was just thinking about is this a safe therapy while reading another thread about Aba. I follow a few autistic threads on Twitter and it seems like ABA is really negative. These views on this are coming from autistic adults. I don’t know enough about it but I am curious. All this is all new to me while I wait on a asd diagnosis for my Ds.

I am aware that ABA gets a lot of bad press. I am under the impression that a lot of it stems from very outdated ways to do ABA. I've been an ABA tutor for over 14 years now and I have never worked with a child against their will or while they are upset. Nor have I come across any consultant or other therapists who would have allowed or expected that. In my experience, ABA is a very positive, reward-based methodological way of teaching anything from play, gross and fine motor and self-help skills to social and academic skills. The children I've worked with have always improved in their communication skills and become better at self-regulation of their emotions, and as a direct result they've become happier children who can make more sense of the world around them. ABA is often life changing in a very positive way, not just for the child but for the whole family. It is THE most effective way I've come across to change the lives of autistic children and their families for the better.
