Hi, my dd is under therapy for sensory issues and is improving. She gets DLA til nov 2008. Things have improved in some respects but not in others. I am stuck when to tell dla that she has improved compared to application put in (this was backed by ped report) or do you wait until nov 2008 and not reapply if things improve further. She will be having therapy for next year anyway and is still under ped.

I deal with DLA applications for people, and I don't believe one of the people has ever told DLA if things improve!

My personal view would be to wait until it's due to be re-applied for, then just not re-apply if she's made so much progress that she wouldn't get it anymore anyway.

If she's still under the Ped and still getting therapy then you're hardly cheating the system!

Hi,
Can i ask you but please dont take it the wrong way.
I won a 3rd appeal for my asd/adhd son three years ago and was backdated a years dla and given an apology for having been made to jump through loops to get what my ds2 was entittled to. What i would like to know is when people like yourselves look at these forms do any of you have any sort of medical knowledge about the conditions that are presented to you? It seems alot of people that are entittled to dla are turned down and end up having to fight for thier entittlement. How do you assess and and decide who is and who isnt entittled? do you get medical advice?

magic, sorry I'm ill at the moment and obviously not making myself clear! I actually help people complete the forms, I don't assess them and don't work for the benefits people. i help people either apply or appeal iyswim.

I don't think the people who assess the forms do have any medical knowledge, though, no. Unfortunately. Glad you finally won your ds appeal

people who deal with dla are generally penpushers. I think it's done on a points sytem and they just add em up.

hence they won't read "inbetween" the lines. You have to be very blunt in what you say - they only count infomation if it's given in the way they expect it. In a way its not what you say but the way that you say it.

I'm not an assessor BTW I have a disability and have just been in the system for a long time!
