Y9 Girl — SW London —Seeking New School (anxiety, depression, maybe ADHD? ASD?)

Dd is in y9 and weekly boards at a school near London. She has a condition that looks a little like ASD with some hints of ADHD (did not trigger diagnostic level) and hints of ODD. She is miserable — says the girls are nasty. I have asked about changing schools but she says it will be the same anywhere — that it is her: weird, says the wrong thing, etc. She is very bright but disengaged — finds lessons slow (online does not help) and boring. She has anxiety issues related to her condition and this has morphed into depression. She has self harmed a few times. She resists doing work — sees it as an imposition and control. I think she is bored but also her neuroinflammation causes a lot of anxiety which I think is at the root of a lot of this. She really can seem like a mildly autistic girl. She can be very social but can also feel very isolated. She has one childhood beat friend and not close friends at school — she flutters around but no depth (see nasty, above.)

She needs an umpressurised environment where she will be engaged and stimulated to do well as she is able but also where there is more acceptance of neurodiversity and quirkiness.

Can anyone suggest any schools in Londom south of the river ideally or the South East? Currently in private but open to state or private. We are not minted and Covid has not been kind but her education and happiness are a priority so we will continue to find the money if there is a great option out there.

I have heard of Thames Christian School but we are agnostics so not sure how great a fit that would be. Have heard of no others in South London....

Beech Lodge near Maidenhead. A friends daughter is currently year 8 mainstream and is moving there for year 9. She has a diagnosis of asd and some attachment issues due to adoption. It sounds lovely. X

If she is prepared to weekly board again, Bruton school for Girls. My ASD/PDA daughter very happy there, attending and achieving again after struggling in larger independent before. The school get it and her. Not at all a pressured environment but they get results. Happy to talk about our experience by pm.

Also, consider applying (yourself) for an EHCP. You might find the LA pay, at least the day fees, or if not, that they pay towards SEN support if it is needed.

Have also heard good things about The Royal school, Haslemere, who also accepted my daughters EHCP. Much closer to you.
