Help me help DS stay focussed - likely adhd

DS is 9. He was diagnosed with autism 2 years ago and we were told he showed signs of
inattentive ADHD. CYPS recommended that we come back to them for a ADHD assessment in a year if he was still struggling. But then covid hit so we haven't even got a referral let alone started a new assessment.

On a day to day basis DS seems to be struggling more and more. Morning and bedtime routines are so difficult for him. He gets so distracted and wastes so much time when he should be brushing his teeth, getting dressed/undressed etc. He needs constant prompts and even then he gets distracted.

It's so hard to stay on top of things with him. I hate feeling like I am nagging him. He gets so sad with himself and says that he is stupid for not being able to remember what to do, and because it takes him so long. I don't want him to feel this way. I've reassured him that it's not his fault and it's my job to find a better to help him.

So please tell me what can I do?

We have tried using a white board with the jobs on to tick off and tried using a little timer for each task. But the timer makes him stressed and the white board reminded him what to do but didn't stop him getting distracted with other things.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed. He went off to school with a last minute mad rush again this morning (DH and I are both frontline workers) and looked so unhappy
