2shoes - I know what you mean, I can't even be arsed to begin to explain. What the hell chance do our kids have when there are people out there just itching to judge?

TotalChaos · 26/10/2007 23:19

same with me 2shoes. Fundamentally - if some people see something that looks a bit "odd" they seem to prefer to assume it's down to parental lunacy and get the good old pitchforks out than to think that there may be some good reason for it.

I am sort of lucky dd's sn is visable, we still get the looks but not so bad as people with hidden sn.

Dont worry folks - we dont all think like this

You gotta feel sorry for those that make such snap judgements about what they see. They clearly dont have the enriched and colourful lives that others have

Same here 2shoes. Can't be arsed to explain or even say, so what if a 6 yo gets cuddled and drinks out of a bottle. Who cares anyway.

I read the title, thought "He could have SN, he could just like bottles, nyeh" and left it,,,

My 8 year old severely autistic non--verbal son doesn't drink out of bottles. He often looks 'normal' in public - until he sniffs someone's bottom that is, or sniffs someone's sandwich. Can you imagine the mumsnet outcry?

There have been so many of those threads over the years - I remember one about a child doing something hideous to his mother in church and her not reacting very much. It's always the same (non SN) people who point out the assumptions (thanks VVVQ), but you're right 2shoes it feels like there's no point. God I can't be arsed anymore. Especially on here.

Toby - completely agree with your comment " Nice to have it re-confirmed that when out and about with DS2, people who aren't making verbal comments are judging like this.....sigh.... ". Which is why these net curtain twitching threads have always got on my tits - whether or not one has a child with SN, why not encourage women to think charitably about others, rather than to revel in judging.
