Sorry if this is in the wrong place.I have posted on health as well.
Just had letter with DD's results as follows:

The EEG doesn't show any clear epileptiform abnormalities, but there are some non specific minor abnormalities in the form of sharpened theta waves posteriorally and more during photic stimulation, which may be due to excessive sensitivity to visual stimuli.

That is all the letter says apart from dd will be reviewed in clinic as aranged.Which we are waiting a appointment for.

Anybody understand any of the above and can give any advice please.I wish they hadn't sent anything through like they said they wouldn't.I was told they would give us the results next time we had a appointment, now i am going to worry til we see the consultant.

Hi madmommy
I don't have any experience of epilepsy to offer but generally any more complex medical terminology is explained during an appnt. I have only ever been sent reports with detailed terminology in error. Usually I receive a copy after it has been explained at an appnt.
Can you phone the neurologist & ask for an explanation, if he is not able to help maybe the GP can shed some light.

I'm sure they'll be a knowledgeable mnetter on here soon to give you the answers.

It means the EEG is abnormal but during the actual EEG no epileptic seizures/discharges were seen. There were also no clear patterns that would point to any epileptic syndromes (there's a whole bunch that have very specific EEG patterns)
If your dd hasn't actually had any seizures I'd say that either she has the potential (and it may or may not develop) or, like part of the population she has EEG abnormalities but they don't mean anything.
If she has had some seizures then the originating point is probably the visual cortex at the back of the brain.
Its not the sort of EEG reading my daughters neurologist would treat but he'd do a wait and see thing with frequent EEG's and only treat if actual clinical seizures were happening.
Epilepsy Action are a good place to start asking questions too.

Thanks for both of your replies.

needmorecoffee dd is 13ys old and has been having some sort of fit since a baby about 6mths old.She fell and banged her head when i picked her up she was fitting. She was rushed to a & e and kept in over night.I was told the shock may have coursed the fit.I was sure that she had more after this but nothing was really done. Then she didn't have anything from a toddler untill about 7 yrs. From then she has had lots but it was never looked into until July this year. Most of the time it happens when she has banged her head, been standing along time (Having her hair done) or travelling in a car ect.

Anyway sorry to go on abit.lol.Just needed to tell somebody.
