My dd has just started taking this for anxiety and irritability, she has ASD.
She’s having 0.5mg once a day, but her prescription doesn’t suggest when in the day. We’ve been giving it to her in the evenings but wondered if this is the best time or would the morning be more beneficial?
She is a good sleeper naturally and drowsiness doesn’t seem to have been an issue.

DS1 takes it in the evening.

Hey, do u mind me asking how old your DD is? We sadly are desperate to try medication sign our Daughter (ASD) - but CAMHS won’t prescribe. Huge problems and little sleep x z

Hi op, my dd is just over 9 1/2 years old.
We have had real battles with her behaviours due to anxiety and her need to control everything and her SEN school are also struggling.
We are under a paediatrician and due to see another and we’re on the waiting list for CAMHS, but I really don’t think we’ll ever get an appointment. It was the paediatrician who prescribed it to us.
Our dd sleeps well, but can be a nightmare getting her into bed.

I hope risperidone works for your dd. But just to warn you that for ds2 it made things an awful lot worse (sent him psychotic and suicidal). Early warning signs something was going wrong were poor sleeping and increased frequency going to the loo so watch out for these side effects. It was a shame as it did take the edge of the anxiety at first.

When did you notice these side effects OneInEight ?
I feel like it’s a Russian Roulette. My dd has only been on it for a week so far.
She’s still having plenty of outbursts but we are sometimes finding we can reason with her. Might just be a coincidence as it’s such early days, plus she’s started on it over the Christmas week.
Just praying she doesn’t have nasty side effects, it’s so worrying.

I hope your dd is ok and that you’ve found something else to help his anxiety.

He was on it a couple of months before we made the link between the behaviour and the drug. In hindsight we should have realised earlier - but then it was difficult to separate what behaviours were down to anxiety and what were down to the drug. The difference was the lack of predictability with the behaviours associated with the drug whereas the behaviours with anxiety were mostly predictable (e.g. when he was stressed by having to go to school etc). The behaviour's did decrease fairly quickly when we took him off the drug (a couple of weeks for the worst of it). He still sadly has a lot of anxiety but copes as long as we make minimal demands on him. I think this sort of side effect is rare so, hopefully, your dd will be OK.
