my 4 month old boy has been diagnosed with retinablastoma (cancer of the eye) but he has it in both eyes. First noticed there was something wrong when i saw a phototgraph of him with one red eye and one greyish eye, i remembered seeing something on tv about this and went to the docs. I was referred to a specialist on the nhs but it could have taken up to three months for an appointment so i went private, and thank god i did i went to birmingham childrens hosp the next day, worst fears confirmed he had multiple tumours in both eyes. they are starting chemo on tues. hes only four months and he looks so healthy and fat, it hasnt sunk in yet i feel im running on over drive i havent really cried yet, and usually i cry at the slightest thing. has anyone been through anything simular and acted diffrent to what they would except. p.s i have also got a two year old and im trying to keep everthing together for him

Hi Charlie

My friend's niece had this in both eyes too, when she was a few months old.
She is now 5.

She has obviously been through the mill but she is now the most confident happy little girl.

She too was treated at Birmingham Children's.

Good luck and lots of love xx

Hey there. I wanted to post here. My daughter was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma at the age of four months. She underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy and is 11 months old now. She was bearly affected by the chemo which we are so lucky for. She didn't lose all her hair and didn't lose her appitite either. Only problem was the line but even that wasn't too bad, just annoying. The docs said she would need blood transfusions and have serious line infections, neither of which she had. I was very overwhelmed and didn't know what to expect. When I saw how well she reacted to the chemo, it made it lots easier for me. She is tumour free so far but the is a chanse that she will develop a few new small ones. Most RB people do. Her development is right on target. She's crawling all over the house and is in the 90 percent for height and weight. I know it's overwhelming at first but it gets better. She's a normal little girl and your son will be fine. Let me know if you want to chat more. Lizzy
