Hello all fellow mums

I have 6 yr old ASD son with possible dyscalculia. He is attending mainstream primary (Y2) with additional support. He struggles with maths, simple one digit addition and substraction concepts and number bonds are far fetched. He can count in 2s 5s and 10s but when asked e.g. what is 10+5...you would not get an answer. I have started using dyscalculia toolkit by Ronit Bird but I am wondering if anyone has been any similar situation and had found any suitable tutors (specialised in dyscalculia and not just special needs). Often its a bit of a battle to get him to table with me so i am thinking if theres someone who can teach and i may then practice with him. I have also come across Emerson House in hammersmith and wondeing if anyone here has any experience/reviews?
I can see he is lagging behind and i dont want him to get to a point where it becomes really difficult to cope up with his peers going forward in later years. No, i am not expecting him to be a genuis in maths, just that i want him to feel confident about numbers before the number anxiety gets worst.
If anyone has been in similar situation and if they can guide how they dealt with this, that would be invaluable.

Thank you in advance Smile

Do you always use physical objects to count wirth? Does the school think he may have dyscalcula and if so what are then doing to help? Have you contacted your local dyslexia associtiaion see if there is any help locally through them?

What have the school said? Have they put him forward for a diagnosis? I have dyscalculia but it wasn’t diagnosed until I was an adult.

@june2007- thanks for responding. The school thought until now that hes doing ok. However, they are now kind of agreeing that he has certain difficulty with abstract concepts. For them, considering his age hes not too far behind his peers and there are some things that he can do like counting in 2s 5s and 10s and 10s and 1s in a 2 digit number etc. At school they work with him using practical objects anf i have also started working using nuggets and cuisenaire rods. I dont know about any local dyslexia association tbh. I am based in Ruislip-London.
