Dyspraxia?

My DS is going to be 6 in a few weeks, and he's never been confident in physical play. He's terrified of riding a bike, won't jump down or climb unless I'm holding him, and is generally clumsy (as am I). Today I watched him in the park while he played with his two of class mates and I noticed how different he was to them and how he cleverly made excuses for not joining them on any of the play equipment and got them on ground with him. It's got me wondering if there's more to this than confidence?

To give a little more background. He struggles to eat with a spoon, cannot use a knife and fork and will always spill from an open cup. He can dress himself and enjoys writing and drawing. I can't compare his with any other children because I don't see any others. He has slept through the night only a handful of times, and waking before 5.30am is normal.

He has insisted from the age of 3 that he will not eat meat, but his diet is now restricted to a small selection of food. I've worried about this for years but I don't know what to do?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

It could be dyspraxia but could also be sensory processing disorder. SPD can involve needing to stay on the ground because it's difficult for the child to balance or sense which way is up. Finding physical activities that he does enjoy and doing lots of them may help. For example, if he doesn't want to ride a bike can he use a scooter instead?
