What should school be doing now to help my DD ?

I could really do with some advice - DD 13, ADD / most likely ASD. Really struggled with mental health through lockdown and remote learning. Attendance very poor this term due to on-going MH issues. Year 9, bright, doing well before lockdown, private school. Timetable been reduced but not much else. What kind of assessment should school be undertaking at this juncture and what kind of help provided ? I feel it is all about me currently getting her to school. No EHCP (yet). Got a meeting with school asap so any advice gratefully received.

.... I'm sorry. But I have to be honest. Your child is 13 and is only getting an EHCP now? Why did she not get one sooner? Your DD's now apparent difficulties are the result of not getting the appropriate support earlier on in her educational years. It would be paramount for her to get an EHCP right away! Then she will be assessed by a speech and language therapist, educational psychologist, and she's with CAMHs and possible Occupational therapy and hopefully school will be given a budget to get her the adequate support. Although I'm not sure if this is different in private schools.

I would seek a psychologist privately to get some therapy input for her mental health difficulties.

Please, get her the support now. Otherwise it would get worse.

If you haven't already done so you should make a parental request for an EHCNA.

The LA's statutory duty to provide education to those unable to attend school extends to those in independent schools.

building many young people with autism mask very well until they hit their teenage years when everything falls apart.
