Ds (AS) being observed by Outreach from Autistic school - what to expect?

After much pushing for help and to meet the person who provides outreach for the MS local schoool from the LEA autistic school, he is coming to observe DS tomorrow and I am going up to meet him.

The transition from year 1 to 2 has been horrible so far and the school sound like they are pinning all their hopes on lots of guidance to deal with DS behaviour (bad at playtimesm assemblies PE etc).

Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing?

Yes

The LEa school really helped with some sensible suggestions my son's infant and then primary school. They came usually once a year to observe him and guide the teacher through some areas. We also used their final report when we went to tribunal. They usually take a very pragmatic view and staff at mainstream are normally very receptive to any specialist type of help. Well done to the school for asking for the help - it amazes me that so many don't.

All the best.

Actually I went in and asked whether any outreach help was available as someone locally suggested I should. I am really hoping for some sensible suggestions.
Keep your fingers crossed for me

my daughter got out reach help from a school specialising in autism (dd severe autism ,severe lds challenging behaviour and non verbal) she was already in a local SLD school but they couldn't cope so we suggested it to the school and they agreed ,the school have to foot the bill not the LEA ,it was excellent they came in observed for a week and put all there findings in a report for us and school after that the school decided to employ an outreach worker from this specialist school for a while to help train there staff in ways of coping with kids like my daughter and it was gradually decreased as Staff then felt they could cope ,while all this was going on i was fighting for a new statement which i now have and dd is now at said specialist school that she received the out reach help from hope that helps

The outreach teacher visits our m/s primary school too. Ds2 was observed in the classroom, and the outreach teacher talked to the class teacher to see if they had any particular concerns. Afterwards she went through her findings with me and the SENCO.

She was able to give them some more ideas about things which could help. She was also able to explain to them why ds2 was doing certain things. I found it all really helpful and reassuring.

Thank copppertop.
I think that is definately what DS's school lack - reasons he is doing things, so that they don't immediately jump on him like a ton of bricks before they have understood what he was thinking about
