DS is almost 7, but the size of an 8 yr old, he still wears nappies at night, but can now hardly squeeze into the largest size of pampers or huggies.

If your DS is 7 surely you should be getting the free from NHS via HV or GP?

Or is this not available in all areas?

totalyfreaky · 15/10/2007 14:45

Not sure, will find out, but would the nappies be as absorbent as the top brands do you know?

I've no idea, hang on someone far more knowledgeable will be along...

dd is 12 and has the nappies supplied by the incontinence supplier. they are very absorbent.(can i just do proud mum bit as she is now dry) what area so you live in?

theheadgirl · 15/10/2007 15:57

I would see your HV or school nurse. DD3 was referred to the incontinence service at the age of five and we get 5 packs of nappies per month.

theheadgirl · 15/10/2007 15:58

Nappies are better than usual brands IMO cos they FIT!

Thanks, I live in Worcestershire

We get Pampers size 6 for my 7 year old DD from the Incontinence service, free of charge.
Congrats 2shoes DD

I have the same problem (Ds nearly 8, large for age, and still in nappies at night). I was told (by the eneuresis clinic)we couldnt get help with nappies or bed pads as they are not for day use. I cant find anything that doesn't leak (Ds wets several times a night). Pyjama pants come bigger (age 8-16 size) but leak. We use feel and learns 6+ (they seem a bit bigger than huggies pullups) and lots of clean duvets in the night! Any suggestions greatfully received.

CappuScreamO · 15/10/2007 20:14

the minki lady will do you specially made cloth nappies for older children

she did a few for my disabled dd when she was about 4

I emailed her with rough measurements etc

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 15/10/2007 21:06

sorry but tell a white lie and say you need them for the day then.

totallyfreaky · 15/10/2007 21:15

I dont mind paying if I have to, ds wets in the day too, can have upto 8 accidents a day, no-one knows why, they are guessing it is either anxiety, or/and a lack of social understanding, but neither explain why he does'nt wake when he needs to go. He does'nt wear nappies in the day though.

totallyfreaky · 15/10/2007 21:17

meant to add, thanks for the replies, will call the health visitor or paedatrician tomorrow.

Mitchell81 · 15/10/2007 21:23

What about adult incontinence pads, I am sure you could buy them from supermarkets.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 15/10/2007 21:45

they are rubbish. dry night pullups are good.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 15/10/2007 21:54

try this site

supportman · 15/10/2007 22:59

I would suggest, as others have said, age 8-15 drynites, or if you don't find them absorbent enough then would recommend trying size extra small Tena slip. You can get these direct from www.tena.co.uk or try local mobility shops and I also think they can be ordered through Boots.

I don't think that they supply free nappies if using them just at night, but it might be worth a try though.

magso · 16/10/2007 08:54

Totalfreaky - my son also isnt reliable by day but has has improved in the last year! I think he just is not aware of his needs till its almost too late. Number of wet beds a night has dropped also so perhaps there is hope for your DS also!I meant to say size 6 pampers easy ups (larger tesco and sainsburys stock)and size 6 huggies little walkers (big asda and boots stores). I think the little walkers are stretchier on the waist but shorter if that helps. They seem more absorbant than drynight pyjama pants or the feel and learn6+ but a bit smaller.
Supportman, thanks for the tip about buying more absorbant pads in local mobility shops hadnt thought to look there.
Twoshoes thanks for the link - do the extralarge fit bigger kids (it says up to 30kg)my ds is as tall as his 11 yr old cousin! I will see if I can get a sample sent out before I order supply!

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 16/10/2007 09:20

dd is 12 I will have a look at what size she gets (they are a bit big for her) and post the size.(shame you don't live near me)

Around here (Wales) the free nappies age ahs just been raised from 5 to 7, you should qualify though.

The problem we have with ds3 atm isn't the size- he's small for his 4 years- but the absorbency, he's been leaking every night recently..... just what we need with a baby on the way in the Spring! noc hance of him being dry imo as he dosn't know he's dirty even, so trying different brands atm (the Wet feel and learn ones with Spiderman etc on? AVOID- rubbish!)

magso · 16/10/2007 11:17

Peachy just a thought -Ds got less leakage making sure male bit pointing down in nappy (maybe as they all fit like hipsters!). I found leaving cotton undies on under nappy helped absorbancy- gave the nappy a chance, -no good if soiling though or skin sensative. Agree feel and learns not particularly absorbant (trainers are all pretty poor) easy ups much better (just too small for our DS!) Maybe the tight fit helps!!

magso · 16/10/2007 11:23

Peachy forgot to say pampers and huggies will send free samples if you need to find which make/size suits best. Takes a while to come. Personally I found easy ups best at that age but (the newish) little walkers may be as good.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 16/10/2007 13:05

they are abri form super medium, but they are massive. the super small would most likely be better,

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 16/10/2007 13:05

definitely ahev the male bits pointing down lol- three boys taught me that much (eventually, sigh )

Sadly DS3 is now soiling again as well (Was completely dry for 6 months) but will bear the pants idea in mind should that pick up agian- thanks
