DS is just turned 4, and under assessment, with an ASD diagnosis looking very likely. Today we had a meeting between myself, his health visitor and the teacher and SENCo from his school (nursery class). Although the meeting seemed positive and mostly focused on getting everyone up to speed on what was happening with support at nursery and progress with diagnosis and mostly just seemed to replace all the little chats that haven't been possible due to covid. All good so far.
Anyway the bit I'm concerned about is that want to do an early help assessment with these people plus the pediatrician and SALT making up the multiple agencies in the "team around the family". This all sounds good at the time, but when I googled afterwards everything I've seen is talking about helping to improve parenting skills and give kids a stable home life. Basically it sounds like the beginning of social service involvement.
Should I be concerned? My kids do have a stable home life, and as far as I'm aware there have been no concerns about their care. The only thing that we need help with is DS been able to access education, with appropriate support. He does have behavioral issues related to his SEN, but we are fully engaged in working with the nursery to overcome them, and initiated several strategies ourselves before he started nursery, which they are happy with and continuing to use.
I'm probably overthinking it but it feels like they're classing use as unfit parents on the basis of DS having SEN.
