I thought you might have some ideas on how I can deal with this.
dd has been at the same school since she was about 3(now 12)
she had had the same phisio for a few years. we had built up a good working relationship. she knew dd really well and understood her.
the day they broke up for Easter phisio phoned me and told me that dd would have a new phisio. the new phisio had just finished training and was new to the school also part time.
I said I wasn't happy but basically I was told it was a done deal. I asked why dd was the one to move and was told it was because she is "amenable" I wasn't best pleased. but couldn't do anything as it was too late.
fast forward to now and we have problems. dd is kicking of bug time at school - refusing to go into her stander. we have been here before and it took a lot of patience but the old phisio got it sorted. of cause new phiso hasn't got a clue and I s having to ask old phisio and me how to deal with it.
I am really annoyed as to me this proves why the phisio shouldn't have changed.
there was no good reason. and the old phisio still works with dc's in dd's class.
any ideas of what I can do.
I don't want it to become personal as new phisio is nice and very keen ........but works 2 days a week. so how will she be able to sort the stander issue out?

shameless bump

the phisio stuff has kinda sorted it self out(although I am still going to bring it up at dd's anual review)
but how the hell do you get a 12year old to go into a stander if she is adamant she won't. she goes hysterical and there is just no reasoning with her. it can also be dangerous to her and staff as every thing kicks in. and due to the cp her control is not brill at the best of times.
She "says" that satnding in the stander hurts. I am at a loss.

have you got the old physio back then? if so she can work her magic and do whatever worked before. Is the stander meant to be a bit effortsome (i.e. not 100% comfortable) to stand in?

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 11/10/2007 21:15

no still the new one. but dd likes her. so I am a bit stuck. It is parents evening next week so I plan to speak to old phisio and ask her to help.
dd has never liked the stander much. but I think a lot of it is controll. the stander does probally make her legs hurt. and I think she thinks sod it I am not doing this.I can't imagine a nt child being happy being made to stand. trouble is if she doesn't stand the long term implications health wise are bad.
I just don't know how to get her to do it.

star chart type bribery? special treatment after a stander session, so she starts to have more positive associations with it?

coppertop · 11/10/2007 21:22

I'd go for bribery too. Is there anything in particular that she'd be unable to resist?

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 11/10/2007 21:22

I have suggested that she stands for music as I thoght that would be fun and cooking. but no luck.
star charts don't really work. one of the problems is That it most likely hurts as if the tendons at the back of her legs have gone tight over the summer(she doesn't use stander at home due to lifting issues)
but I get the idea of rewards.

OP posts:
TotalChaos · 11/10/2007 21:24

is there anything they can do to loosen up the tendons? would it be appropriate for her to have a kiddie paracetamol before going into the stander if it's that unpleasant?

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 11/10/2007 21:24

coppertop does boys count?

OP posts:
coppertop · 11/10/2007 21:27

LOL at boys. A kiss on the cheek for each time she uses her stander.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 11/10/2007 21:27

with the tendons the sad thing is that the more she stands the better it will get.
they did find out that her AFFOS are to small so she will be getting new ones.
IDEA IDEA light bulb flashing.....
worth a try
new affos mean new trainers. I could take her shopping in half term to choose the(and let her choose)

I don't beleive it!
the phisio has rung and asked me if I had had any luck.
I said what I had managed to find out. yet she is till trying to get dd into the stand! She then told me she wouldn't be at parents evening!!!!!
I was gobsmacked. what is the point of having a parents evening if the people you need to see arn't going to be there.
(seems it is optional!)
on top of that dd won't be able to do horse riding due to her extending!!! [angry ]

OP posts:
TotalChaos · 12/10/2007 20:48

I don't understand what you mean about the extending? Can you arrange to see physio in school and have a proper meeting about this then if she isn't going to parent's evening?

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 12/10/2007 21:44

I am hoping to see the phisio who is in charge of horse riding.
