DS1 is playing independently on the computer

not right now- he's in bed asleep! But yep finally got there. He can now use a mouse and is choosing games etc himself (although he got a bit cross when he opened something about MMR by mistake today ). Gets a bit stimmy at times so needs redirecting- but AT LAST- something constructive he can do independentlly. I have been waiting over 5 years for this

Big big BIG thank you to everyone who sent software- and especially to Snmum as Postman Pat is still the absolute favourite in the whole world.

That's great Jimjams, well done all round.
Isn't it wonderful when something actually falls into place.

Jimjams · 18/10/2004 21:23

Actually its great- just realised that over the last few days I haven't had to lift him down from dangerous places every 5 minutes. Thank god he sussed it out before half term!

Thomcat · 18/10/2004 21:25

Oh that's SUCH good news

blossomhill · 18/10/2004 21:32

Jimjams - That is fantastic. Honest I am over the moon for you as I know just how much this means and what a breakthrough this is for you and your family!

A big well done to ds. Yet another bit of progress he has made and long may it continue!

That's very kind onlyjoking. Toddler aged stuff really - anything else has too much language. His favourite at the moment is a postman pat shape sorting game. He likes flicking between the games as well (that's when it becomes a bit stimmy) and just watching the van drive off each time.

Just had a thought- must try him on the washing maching game tomorrow......

Twiglett · 18/10/2004 21:37

jimjams ... have you tried the games on nickjr.com?

tamum · 18/10/2004 21:38

Brilliant news Jimjams. What a breakthrough, and it will be invaluable when ds3 arrives!

Now all you need is a PC and I can send lots more.....

onlyjoking9329 · 18/10/2004 21:40

sorry meant to say brilliant that he can do the computer by himself, well i have loads of toddler type stuff, thomas the tank engine, noddy and pingu, who was banned in this house as all three kids were doing pingu speak! some of the games only really work on windows 95/98, let me know, you can CAT me if you like but put mumsnet or autism in the title as i delete most stuff

blossomhill · 18/10/2004 21:43

Cbeebies is really good as well. My dd loves it and likes to print off the recipies from Come outside

Dingle · 18/10/2004 21:44

Can I butt in and ask opions on what mouse you use!! I know dd is not quite 3 but would you recommend a specialist mouse or just persevere with a basic mouse? dd is very click happy!!

blossomhill · 18/10/2004 21:48

Dingel - Think it depends on the child. My dd is left handed but has coped with a right handed one really well!

Jimjams · 18/10/2004 21:48

We're macintosh at the moment onlyjoking (although may look to get windows at xmas tamum )

Dingle- he sussed it out with a large trackball in the end- we got it from inclusive technology- they're great- allow you to trial stuff for 6 weeks I think. If your dd gets DLA you can get a lot of their stuff VAT free as well.....

OP posts:
misdee · 18/10/2004 21:53

trackerball mouse is good. dd1 can use it (she is 4 tho) and dd2 is just grasping it as well. she spends ages watching dd1 and then has a go herself.

great news jimjams. now make sure he lets u get onto mumsnet for your fix!!

hows the bump?

pixel · 18/10/2004 22:04

Jimjams, My ds likes a lot of the games on www.uptoten.com. They are quite simple but got him using the mouse and arrow keys really well in a very short space of time. His teacher can't believe that he wouldn't even touch the mouse a couple of months ago. There is one game that involves shooting balloons that has him in fits of laughter!

jakbrown · 18/10/2004 22:14

Fantastic

heartinthecountry · 18/10/2004 22:21

Was hoping this was your thread jimjams - hurray!

hoxtonchick · 18/10/2004 22:21

fab

JJ · 19/10/2004 03:56

Alright!

Ooh, I know sites that have some good downloadable games for the Mac -- even the demos are enough for a lot of them. Once we get the house set up again and I get home, I can send you some other stuff, too.

Am v happy for you.

pixel, my 3 yo comes up and says "boowakwala" to me far too much. It's such a great site! Educational and gets him out of my hair to cook dinner......

snmum · 19/10/2004 07:26

jimjams i am so glad he likes it so much! I still keep looking in my local co-op to see if anything else suitable comes available

eidsvold · 19/10/2004 11:39
