I thought this would interest you 2 shoes but figured I would leave it up to you to post.

fortunately am not in this position having boys, and none so severe.

however, I would say- worked in what was regarded as a very good residential unit many years ago and really, the women there (younger women, up to about 35) really did need to be on the pill. It was an acknowledged risk factor in a mixed sex unit that there was always a potential for- well, whether it is regarded as abuse of both aprties are unaware of the consequences is difficult really isn't it? A lot of our clients came from homes where less care was taken sdly and we were regularly told horror stories of sexual relationships between clients being overlooked as the norm- even when victims complained (we ahd differing levels of severity, a unit of people with severe needs and one of less so, with much inter-mixing and differing staff ratios). Certainly iw ulnd't consider allowing a daughter of mine to be a resident in a unit of any kind without ensuring contraception is taken care of, and as women in my family cannot take hormonal contrraception therfore hysterectomy possibly would cross my mind. It is exctreme though.

the Ashley treatment was more extreme iirc, with hormonal treatments etc to prevent growth?

Actually this makes me think of one family I know where daughter has very severe CP and no understanding at all as far as anyone can tell, and mum died during the birth, so Dad has to deal with all her needs. I cam imagine periods etc would be aprticualrly ahrd for him to cope with as a male?

I know I wouldn't wish the period pains I can get on anyone- or the level of bleeding, hysterectomy isn't an option for me sadly ( they try to avoid it if high risk osteoporosis or heart diseae and I am for both), but otherwise after this baby I'd have a hystrectomy like a shot- being housebound for 3-4 days a month with heavy bleeding is no fun at all! And at elast i gain some advantage (ie the DC's)

the family involved featured on our regional news programme this evening & I must say the parents made a very strong argument & came accross as wanting nothing but the best quality of life for their daughter.

The mum said the daughter has very limited understanding & can only communicate the most basic of feelings,eg pain, happiness etc by variation of cry & sees her responsibility as a parent as ensuring her daughter has the best quality of life, free of discomfort & pain etc.

The lady from SCOPE was claiming that they provide this sort of personal care for people with CP all the time without difficulty.
The mothers reply was that in 15yrs of caring for Katie SCOPE had never once been able to help with any care or support.
The SCOPE lady looked rather red faced!
