DD just twelve, and one of the massive positives to come out of lockdown and sheilding is that she's now wearing knickers during the day, mostly successfully.
She was already wearing knickers at home and mostly staying dry and clean with a lot of prompting and timed toilet visits. At school she was in pull-ups (partly because she really got going with managing knickers a week before starting secondary, and we felt there was enough for her to cope with!)
So, through lockdown we took a very low key approach to toilet training and because we were at home with nowhere to go and no drama about accidents she's done really well.
But now we need to venture further. Next week she has a hospital appointment three hours away, so six hours in the car in total. Mostly rural driving (no public loos en route) with maybe 45 minutes into the city when we get there. She has not got the knack of an alfresco wee, and also is a bit big now really - with a toddler it would be different.
I'm pretty sure she'll ask for a pull-up but I'd like to avoid that if possible as it would set a precedent for going back to school and I'm confident she can manage the school day in knickers.
I just have no idea how we do this. I'll take changes of clothes just in case obviously and be completely calm about any accidents but I feel like I'm missing something... (Probably just wishful thinking that there might be A Solution which someone will now propose).
It doesn't help that her older brother also had continence issues and I have no experience of 'normal' potty training despite having two children in secondary school!
