to my 9yr old with ASD.

I need a break, H and I need a break and we can’t ever get one!

Love her to pieces but I’m feeling so tired and down. I’ve been a little unwell and I think it has also unsettled my DD.

Want to get back to how we used to be and where she wasn’t so noise sensitive and scared out and about x

Hi OP,

Sorry to hear about that? What exactly is going on? It's hard to work out from your post. You can apply to get respite. You'll have to apply for a carers assessment through your local social services disability team.

With the benefit of hindsight I really, really wish we had paid some-one to provide respite when my two were this age so dh and I could have a break. I guess at the time I thought I was the only one who could manage the behaviour (not sure I even trusted dh). In actuality I did not always get it right either and even an hour or so a week would have made a big difference to dh and I. It does get easier but I do think the enormous stress of those years has played a major contributory role in dh's current ill health (chronic tiredness).

One in eight your post could of been written by me, even down to the not trusting dh to deal / cope with the behaviours.

@Blossom4538 Has she been affected by Covid and the lockdown. My son is the same age and at the beginning of this Covid thing he was very anxious and refused to leave the house?
