I have a nearly 1 year old boy who is very social and meeting most of his milestones (i think) but there is a few things he does/doesn't do that i am concerned about, and of course i googled

He is very social , smiles and laughs, answers to his name , respond when i say 'no' , makes good eye contact, crawling by 8 months, standing on his own now , not far from walking i would say.
He loves peak a boo ans respons well to it
He loves to play with toys, although usually he's more interested in the TV remote or my phone ! But he will sit there and play with me , he loves playing with balls , rolling them around etc, crawling all over the place with them
He says mama and dada , mostly dada, and often makes normal baby noise
He does not clap or wave , i have tried numerous times but he just won't copy me or do it himself, but he does copy me when i make a noise with my mouth and tap my mouth with my hand (he mimics the sound and action)

He isn't keen on being strapped in his pram and kicks up a fuss (we have now got one of them trike prams which he does love)

He often flaps his arm (usually when excited)

The main things I worried about it the no waving or clapping, and the arm flapping. According to Google these are all early signs of autism

Any adivde or similar experience would be appreciated please

Thank you

I have no experience in this area but many people have assured me that they are still young and if they don't grow out of it is when you should further investigate. I have a DS almost 16months and last month he started flapping his hands. He started to doing this whilst watching his reflection in the mirror. He continued doing it for a couple of weeks which gave a knot in my stomach. Now though, he hasn't been doing it for nearly a week. When DS was around 10 months he was clapping but stopped clapping when he turned 1 and never clapped until last month . With the wave, it came at around 13 months but one day he constantly waves at everything and then goes into a phase where he doesn't and then starts waving again. At the moment he is waving correctly when there's a hello and bye.

My DS is also interested in my phone, iPad, control pads, calculators, washing machine and dishwasher and anything that has buttons. He has just recently started playing with his toys for a bit and correctly. Still no interest in book reading although he likes turning pages and poking the texture bits that kids books have.

What you have described about your DS, it sounds age appropriate but of course I would definitely like to underline the fact that I am no way experienced in this area.

Gestures like clapping and specially waving tend to be least important of gestures as they are all learned/taught gestures (autism screeners are not interested and do not test for these gestures). Gestures like lifting their arms to be picked up, giving/showing gestures, praise seeking gestures, pointing, etc are far more important as they are innate gestures. A child not waving by 18M means very little while a child not pointing by 18M could be quite significant. By your description I would not be concerned - things will get much clearer by 18M.

@AladdinMum you are so knowledgeable and I have been following your replies through my posts and others which has helped me understand more. Thank you 🙏 my DS almost 16 months still has no pointing but gestures with his whole hand to reach or ask and of course there is still no oh look at that plane in the sky yet. I'm giving him until 18-19months before I take it further. I know there's is a lot of waiting time but discussed with DH to go private.
