DD1 (7) is autistic with a demand avoidant profile. We are in the first week of the summer holidays (Scotland) and I'm feeling burnt out already. I don't know how to help her with anticipation anxiety.
Yesterday, we planned and went for a walk with a picnic as the weather was delightful. Today she asked to bake some biscuits as well as read a book about dogs (special interest). These are just recent examples.
But, she has had a meltdown before, during and after everything.
The advice from her psychologist at CAMHS was to only tell her about things happening shortly. This has improved things quite considerably as I had been 'preparing' her for things with photos/symbols/timetables the day before.
The meltdowns seem to be about things not going precisely to her internal plan of how they are supposed to go (perfectionism). There are also the transitions between the house, the car, the place as well as the sensory aspects of socks, shoes, coat, car seat, seatbelt, etc.
Does anyone have any advice on how to help her?
