11yo faecal incontinence- What do I need to ask the GP for

DS has never managed to toilet train for bowel movements. He toilet trained for peeing straight away. Poos just never happened. he soils himself daily at least. We’ve been back and forth to the GP regarding this several times over the years and had a referral to a paediatrician in that time too. Every time constipation was diagnosed and either movicol or lactulose prescribed with some tips on a toilet routine from the paediatrician that I was already trying to do. I say trying- DS has had behavioural issues all his life and it is a constant battle to keep him on a consistent schedule. I suspect he has PDA but they don’t assess for that here. He had his ADHD assessment today- (been waiting 3 years) and will hear this week whether there is a diagnoses or not. (They need his school to return the questionnaires.) he has a SEN statement and full time 1:1 classroom assistant. The ADHD nurse said that toileting issues is something she sees appearing quite a lot in ADHD cases she deals with so this may or may not be the case here.

DS is moving to secondary school in September, his 1:1 CA will continue full time there, I think he will need something “official” from a GP or another Doctor to allow him to use the bathroom when he needs to. Is this right? I have a phone appointment booked with the GP tomorrow to discuss this but I have no idea what I need to ask for. I want this investigated beyond “its constipation- try using a stool whilst on the loo” and I also want something I can give to his school to show he has a medical need to use the bathroom often.

Can anyone advise what I need to ask for?

Have a look at the website Eric.org.uk. They have a section on bowel issues and link to the Department of Education guidance on children with health conditions in school.
I would also make contact with the school nurse. Does your son have a health plan for school?
Your son cannot be stopped from accessing bathroom facilities when he needs them.
