ds is 3.4 and he has been (sort of) seeing salt for the last year...

today we saw the consultant paediatrician for an hour and although he said he was not giving a diagnosis yet, he has said that our son has some asd traits... we are to go back in 6 months

dh is going to school with dh this week for a meeting with the ed psych, so they can see about him getting help at pre-school nursery...

I am 34, my dd is six, I am a sahm, I have been hanging about here for a while, I have cried all day.

I am so glad this board exists, I have found it very good as a lurker, I still feel very isolated and sad... but I hope you won't mind me joining you all and looking for advice

tia

AeFondKiss · 24/09/2007 21:37

shameless plug

We've been banging onto mnet HQ for years about a SN FAQ, but nothing yet. The shamless plug link will give you something to read though

Check out the NAS as well of course.

vintage73 · 24/09/2007 22:05

vintage73 · 24/09/2007 22:09

coppertop · 24/09/2007 22:10

Welcome to the SN board too, Vintage.

AeFondkiss - The NAS site is a good place to start for general information and a look at what's out there.

Portage is also really useful for pre-schoolers if you haven't already heard of them.

coppertop · 24/09/2007 22:11

Portage website

vintage73 · 24/09/2007 22:15

dd had portage til she started school last wk - fab service

Sidge · 24/09/2007 22:22

Welcome

You're amongst some lovely and helpful people here (says me, a relative newbie!)

coppertop · 24/09/2007 22:25

You'll soon feel like an oldie.

coppertop · 24/09/2007 22:25

I think I should've phrased that differently.

TotalChaos · 24/09/2007 22:29

Hello and welcome Aefondkiss and vintage73.

AeFondKiss · 24/09/2007 22:29

thanks coppertop, I had a look at the portage but we live in a grey area, tried googling for scotland, but no luck...

This site has useful info on speech exercises etc:-

www.speechteach.co.uk/index.htm

you might also find the hanen site useful:-

www.hanen.org

if portage doesn't operate in your area, you should still have some form of local early years service dealing with special needs/inclusion or whatever the local term might be. I imagine that will be who ed psych/nursery liaise with regarding getting him help.

AeFondKiss · 24/09/2007 22:41

thanks tobysmumkent, I do feel isolated, and dread elling people....

totalchaos I am very grateful, going to bed now, but I will look at those links tomorrow.

thank you all for the warm welcome, should I send mn a remindeer that we need an faq? is there a petition I can sign?

hi everyone. have just realised what free time is again after dd started school last wk - getting nothing done, just watching crap tv!! think i spent last 3 yrs reading, researching, crying, hoping, etc

Niecie · 24/09/2007 22:57

Hi AeFondKiss, welcome from me too. I have a son aged 7 with AS as well, so like everybody else here, I know where you are coming from. There seems a lot to learn doesn't there - all a bit daunting.

Good luck with the ed psych this week.

mymatemax · 25/09/2007 16:17

hello to you both & hope you get loads of support on here.
I have 2 boys the youngest has CP, GDD, OCD/poss ASD.

flyingmum · 25/09/2007 16:53

Hi, This is such a welcoming board and i wish I had known about it sooner. I remember thinking we seemed so alone.

I'm mum to two chaps. son 1 has aspergers, dyspraxia, dyslexia, auditory and visual processing and some s&L difficulties and it looks horrible all written down like that yet he's lovely. He is 12 now but was diagnosed with the ASD side when around 3 to 4 ish. Had to battle with the dyspraxia side (which was sooo patently obvious and causes us the most problems). The other stuff has been found out on the way.

son 2 is just a pickle!

ladygrinningsoul · 25/09/2007 19:13

Welcome to you both. I have a DS who is almost 4 and has HFA and hyperlexia.
