My son is ten years old and whilst I am still waiting on the letter from dwp based on the payment received the other day he has been awarded middle rate care. I am so relieved as I thought we would have to fight for it. I put off applying for a couple years as I was convinced he would not get it. My query now is if I should report this to tax credits or not? Currently due to the amount my partner earns we do not receive anything anyway and I recently just before lock down started a full time position. I did not see the point in notifying them given that we have not received a penny in 5 years so I figured we don't get anything anyway so why bother telling them as nothing for them to reduce. Had we received anything I would have done so. My query is regarding the disabled element of child tax credit, is this affected by household income? I don't want to spend hours on the phone due to coronavirus on hold to notify them of me working full time and him receiving dla if it makes no difference as the extra earning would mean we wouldn't get it. It seems like a waste of time. Does anyone know if household income affects this?

I'm pretty sure DLA isn't counted as income as it is for your son to help with his disability. You should inform them though because you may be entitled to the disability element. My son used to get that through my tax credits before he reached 16 and I think it added an extra £2000 onto the award. That was years ago so not sure what it is now.

Sorry just saw you were specifically asking whether household income will affect it! And that you posted in June so probably have it sorted by now 🙈
