Hello lovely mums, Im struggling with my boys school. Inclusion coordinator doesnt allow his TA to attend EHCP review ("as it is her rule"). Is it too much of an ask? He has 1-1 Ta that is delivering the program why cant she be on the most important meeting? Please let me know if IABU :-(

That is very odd. At our school (SEN TA) it is the TA who leads the meeting. SENCO sets it up (gathers reports from EP/SALT/OT etc) and on the day the TA is first up, and talks most. IT makes no sense to me that the person charged with delivery of the EHCP doesn't discuss how it is going and next steps.

We deliver it as a celebration for the child, starting off with what's gone well, and after the child leaves discussing what hasn't worked, and what next.

Hi @TrickyWords, thank you for replaying. I have started to think Im being unreasonable. Its good to know its not unusual and I will now stand firm ground with SENCO. Teachers asked her too about the same and she has refused. Im now waiting to hear from her coming back to me. I might need to dig out some official regulations I guess cause she doesn't seem to want to cooperate (boy didn't had any support from her since she joined school).

Gosh that doesn’t sound right. I’m actually not sure if there are regulations, more best practices. I know from friends in other boroughs that it does vary hugely. Good luck. It is meant to be a child centred process!

Yes i think you are right @TrickyWords no regulations, however best practice is everyone involved - she clearly is. I will tske it as an argument. I feel like I always have to fight :-(

Definitely tackle this, I am parent to an autistic teen and TAs were ALWAYS involved in Annual Reviews for him, it made total sense as they were the ones delivering the plan. I needed to hear their views as they spent most of the time with my son.

Ellie56 · 14/05/2020 11:07

That sounds nonsense. Our son's TAs/ support workers were always invited to his reviews, or provided a report if they could not attend.

The SEND Code of Practice does say in 9.176
"Other individuals relevant to the review should also be invited, including youth offending teams and job coaches."^

Thank you @Ellie56 that is very helpful. His TA is the most lovely person on the planet and he loves her too. I will have to wait now for school's reply. I will let you know how that went. X
