Just started the listening program to help with dd's sensitive hearing/sensory needs

Just thought I'd let you all know that I have started a 6 week program (given by OT although I have had to pay) to help with dd's sensitivity to noise and also helps general sensory needs.
Dd has to listen twice a day for 15 mins each time and has been such a star. She knows why she is doing it so I think that helps.
She is 8 with a dx of asd/AS (not quite sure which).
I'll let you all know how it goes x

School have managed to get DS2 to wear headphones, so I'd def be interested too.

silverfrog · 28/03/2008 16:48

Would also be interested - dd1 has sound sensitivity issues, and also auditory processing difficulties. No idea whether she'd tolerate headphones at this point, but I bet I could get her to over time.

sphil · 28/03/2008 17:23

School did it in an ABA way without realising! They paired the headphones with his favourite Cbeebies clips on the computer.

Can I just say how disappointed with this I was. We did it for 3 months and dd's over sensitive hearing is much worse.
Her whole behaviour was awful. It was like it affected her brain really badly. She couldn't sit still. Was shouting, didn't sleep and it took about 3 months for her to calm down.
Be very careful as we had 6 months of hell and I now have a £300 kit that I can't use

Blossomhill · 28/03/2008 23:01

I was also looking into this for DS aged 6 dx ADHD, but a few studies put me off - this one in particular dated 2003:-

Hi girls, could you be more specific about the problems The Listening Program has caused to your kids? Are you talking about TLP by ABT?

mumgoingcrazy · 18/02/2009 19:57

We've just started Therapeutic Listening. Is this the same as The Listening Program???

improvingslowly · 19/02/2009 18:59

mgc - i think they are different. i was interested in listening prog but after hearing bad experiences on here was not sure, and now v interested in TL (hnad have found lady nearby who does TL which is even better).

How is the TL stuff going?

mumgoingcrazy · 20/02/2009 19:20

Hi IS, I was going to wait for a couple of weeks before posting for you but as you're here.......

We have only just completed day 3 so it's very early days as we are doing a 12 week program. The 1st 2 days there wasn't much change other than she seemed to really enjoy listening to the music and dances to it quite a lot. Today however, she seems to be a bit more sensitive to noises (esp from DD1) and not her usual happy self. I'm not too worried as our OT is coming over every week and depending on how negative/positive the changes are will change the cd to suit. She already warned me to expect some negative effects in the 1st couple of weeks as the sensory system dis-regulates itself before re-regulating IYSWIM. I have noticed however that today she has seemed much more confident touching things, even things she hasn't touched before.

This isn't much help to you I'm afraid but I will let you know more as we get into it. Hopefully after a couple of weeks I'll have a better picture for you.

mumgoingcrazy · 20/02/2009 19:22

I should have also mentioned that DD2 had a cranial osteopath session this morning and she's often fractious after these anyway, they worked on draining her ears so her behaviour today maybe nothing to do with TL but then how would you ever know??? It's all such a guessing game.

improvingslowly · 20/02/2009 21:54

thank you. sounds like a promising start...

Mazzda · 17/01/2012 23:10

Hi there does anyone want to sell thier listening program to me as it is very expensive brand new...

Flakeyv · 21/08/2012 12:22

I am also interested in the program, if anyone want to sell theirs

bochead · 21/08/2012 19:42

Can anyone post a direct link to where I can buy the kit?

NHS therapist can do it but doesn't have kit and cheapest I've found privately to date has been $1300 - if I can knock a grand of that I'd be MORE than grateful!

IndigoBell · 21/08/2012 21:42

I don't know how much hemispheres charge for the listening program.

Leap Children's Therapy do Therapeutic Listening Programme very cheaply.

telsa · 17/03/2013 11:53

Sorry to resurrect old thread, but am just wondering if anyone knows anywhere in UK where you can get new or secondhand TLP CDs. Just can't afford to undergo the programme through a provider, but have an idea of how to administer it. I saw one sold on EBay last week. Dammit! Thanks for any advice.

telsa · 17/03/2013 11:54

Or listening program... sorry, that is what I meant actually but am not hugely fussy.
