MRI results

We have just spoken to ds2's consultant this week about the results of his mri scan which apparently showed no damage. She said that she was disapointed that it had'nt shown anything as she really had thought that it would .She of course said that it was posative that it had'nt but that that did'nt mean that there was'nt a smaller problem that would not have shown.
I am now wondering if that means that it was'nt a very detailed scan.Would appreciate other peoples experience on mri and results.I guess that when they told us over the phone that it was fine i just mentally crossed that off the list in my mind confused again now.

Ds2 had an mri when he was about 18m old, and it came back with no signs of anything, but his paed sent it of to GOSH for a second opinion, and they found periventricular leukamalacia, which is associated with the type of cp that he has.

I would ask for the mri to be sent to gosh for a 2nd opinion if possible, just to put your mind at rest.

How old is your ds2 meea? sorry, can't remember. I think sometimes if the child is very young then not everything shows up, or some stuff might show up when the brain is more developed IYSWIM.

Was your ds2 under anaesthetic? our dd was conscious but asleep for her first MRI and she woke up so they didn't get a complete scan - but I'm sure if that were the case for your ds2 they would have said.

I would also ask for the scan to be sent to a specialist for a second opinion. The neurology dept at Guys looked at dd's and came up with some stuff the local paed hadn't.

no damage ever showed up on my dd's scan. i am considering asking for another (an mri scan) as i am pretty sure she has damage

Ds2 is 2y 6 months and he was under a general anesthetic. Pardon my ignorence but what is gosh.I thought that people had said that a second opinion can give a different answer.Ds2 is making good progress at the moment but a dx would help us get him help.I have just been told by ot today that they can't justify funding a major buggy as he can walk falls over all the time gets tired easily as walking is hard for him.The fact that I don't drive and school is a 20 minute walk in each direction is obviously unimportant.
I will try and discuss getting a second opinion of his mri scan .How do you go about that tactfully.

i have been told we may be entitled to a major, mainly for dd's size and her balence/co-ordination problems. havent got dx, have to wait till next year to see whats wrong, hoping she is just off balence. ask for full assessment for the buggy.

Get your hv to refer you to wheelchair services. You are entitled to a second opinion about the mri, just contact the paed and ask for a second reporting to be done by another hospital.
