A big step

Quite literally actually.
So you may or may not know Lottie isn't up for standing, well this is improving bit by bit, slowly but surely and she tolerates it much more these days for longer periods. Sometimes when I put her down her legs don't do the splits in mid air and she puts her feet down! She'll stand at different surfaces, baths, tables, sofa and play using both hands now as well.

At therapy on Friday she was given a shopping trolley to play with. I stood her up at it and it moved, and she followed! I was holding her under her arms but she moved her legs in the direction the trolley was going, about 5 steps in total. Very clumsly, but whaatever, she moved her feet, actually picked ythem up off the floor! They have always remained glued to the floor before, to the point where I have to push her feet into the perfect standing position and she'll let me know when she has had enough. She did this moving feet thing twice (can't really call it walking just yet, don't want to get too excited).

Great huh!

NomDePlume · 04/10/2004 13:30

Fantastic stuff, well done Lottie !

Thomcat · 04/10/2004 13:37

Ohhhhhhh, my tummy just flipped over at the thought of watching her run around. God I can't wait for that, makes me physically ache tbh. The thought of her being able to join in at parties and not get left sitting on the floor in the middle of a party! I know we're a long way off, and she's happy getting around on her bum, bless her, but the day that girl can run off, making me chase her all over the place, will be a day to celebrate and remember forever.

Well done Lottie!![big hugs emoticon]
It doesn't matter how long it takes her to get there-she is one step closer(well 5 really) to being up & about. I don't mean this in a bad way-but make the most of her for how she is at the moment. It seems a lifetime ago that I was going through the same thing with dd. Now it's hard to keep her still!!We have overcome various problems on the way and still have others to deal with-I wonder if dd will ever walk "normally"but here & now is not the time to discuss that!
I can remember the emotions that I experienced when DD took her first few steps and can still picture the sheer look of pride on her little face- the sort of moment you want to pick up & bottle for a keepsake.
Well done!!!

Cheers girls. I do know what you mean Dingle but I've had 3 years of making the most of her not walking and am just really looking forward to being able to watch her running around in the garden, climing up slides, walking into nursery, chasing the cat, being able to join in with her peers. No matter how much trouble she'll cause, how much chasing after her I'll be doing, I still really do physically ache to see her run off. I do know what you're saying though sweet but she needs to walk now, for herself more than me.

Tc that is wonderful news, well done to your kitten.

coppertop · 04/10/2004 14:26

Hurray for Lottie!

Hopefully you won't have to wait long for your dream to come true, TC.

Dingle · 04/10/2004 14:49

I really understand TC. It must be so much harder at times for her to mix socially. I can picture dd "running" around the garden with her big brother, a grin spread from ear to ear. She looks so proud of herself and I know that she loves to be included in everything. Does Lottie get frustrated seeing the others run around her? I'm sorry, I never thought about it from that angle!
Keep that image of her running around in the front of your mind TC-It won't be long & it will be reality for you all.

Thomcat · 04/10/2004 15:09

To her credit she doesn't really. What she does instead is to catch the eye of an adult, put up hjer arms and say 'cuddle'. They go weak at the knees and scoop her up with a big 'ahhhh, how sweet' and then she promptly leans out ofthere arms, points with all her might to a far corner and says 'there, there'! She has her ways of getting round!

She also bum shuffles everywhere and never goes more than a couple of shuffles without a huge grin so....

It's just that I know she needs to be able to join in more and then she'll come on in leaps and bounds in other areas as well.

It can't be fun for ever having to only get round with the aid of an adult all the time. When we're out and carrying her round shops and things she says 'floor, floor' which means she wants to get round on her own but having a little bum shuffler makes getting round M&S quite difficult (cut to us on Saturday in Brent Cross M&S!!!!)

We took her to the beach a few weekends ago and she insisted on bum shuffling down the beach to the sea, you should have seen the state on her new trousers!!!! This was all most amusing to everyone else on the beach btw!

bless her Tc, it won't be long until lottie is running around don't you worry!!!!
I love hearing things like this, it is just so positive isn't it?

Davros · 04/10/2004 19:50

Lovely story TC, LOL at the splits!

heartinthecountry · 04/10/2004 20:59

TC - I know EXACTLY what you mean and I can imagine just how much those 5 little steps meant.

I had a dream a few weeks ago that my dd was standing at the top of the stairs in her pj's and when I woke up I realised just how much I long to see that. She is also a master of the mid-air splits!

Hurray for Lottie - she's gonna get there .

tamum · 04/10/2004 21:02

Oh just seen this, how lovely. Lottie, you go girl

Great news for your back, too, TC I would imagine!

Caroline5 · 04/10/2004 22:19

misdee · 04/10/2004 23:08

aw bless. cant wait for the next installment in little lotties progress. she sounds so sweet and adorable.

eidsvold · 04/10/2004 23:18

that is brilliant tc dd is up to the standing too and playing with things on a table etc and finally actually pulling herself up to stand at the table or the couch... she will put her feet down the odd occasion we try to make her stand with our support but with us holding her arms she does a brilliant goosestep - straight legs to try and walk...

Like you I can't wait to see her walk, run around the garden, and all those things.

well done lottie

Thomcat · 05/10/2004 10:19

Ha haa, LOL at our midair leg splitters! Lotties look as if they are coming to come all the say up so her knees are touching her ears!!!
