whilst going through old posts- information gathering I see that you have tried a lot of biomed stuff. Would love to know how its going for you and what you have tried.

Ever tried Carnosine MMDDWW?

thanks for the detailed reply, certainly sounds like your DS has food issues.

No we dont use carnosine, though we do use Acetyl L Carnitine which boosts energy use.

Its an amino and we had our child's amino acids checked via a urine sample. He showed all kinds of problems with aminos and we have a special individualised amino acid complex made just for him. Easy to do via the lab IWDL. You do the amino acid test and then they make up the aminos according to your child's own specifications.

aminos are so very important, they are made from proteins and we cant live without them, the building blocks of our body/brain.

As i said, there is no magic substance. You will hear about DMG or carnitine, or this or that. Its hard to judge what your child will respond to unless you know what is going on inside.

There is no magic machine that we can plug our kids in to get a diagnosis of what is going on. Its a combination of watching behaviours and doing tests, etc.

Have you tried MB12? (methylcobalamin) Have you heard of it? Our child did very well on this for a while, but then we had to stop as he was not ready for it. MB12 is used for the methylation process, which basically helps in detoxification.

Our boy was not ready for it, his body couldnt handle it. He started biting his hands and gritting his teeth. The positives, however, were that his mouth awakened, he realised he had a mouth! He started stamping his feet, he realised he had feet! Parts of his body were "re-awakening". But unfortunately we hadnt prepared a foundation of good nutrition for him so we had to stop as the effects of MB12 were too much. (MB12 is only a b vitamin by the way, non toxic)

Go to wwww.drneubrander.com to see recovered children videos. some kids make miraculous changes with mb12.

We did get some first words with MB12 though. You can only get it on prescription (forget asking your doctor) It has to come from a doctor who works with ASD kids. It isnt expensive, but you do have to inject it into the bum, although there is an oral product and even a trans dermal one.

What i am saying is that there is so much out there, so much that doctors WILL NOT tell you cause they simply dont know.

If you have a computer, biomed is your oyster, read read read, its all there.

Get yourself a practitioner. Talk to a "rescue angel" from the DAN website, there are plenty in the UK. Or phone Dr Heard at the Breakspear Hospital. He is supposed to be very good with kids with ASD.

There is also free funding for biomd for kids with autism who use biomedical interventions. visit the caudwell trust in the UK. They fund it.

now i bet no doctor would have told you that!!!

Thanks MMDDWW I didnt even know there was a test for amino acids I've probably come across it but not taken it in.. I will look into it. Have booked appointment with a DAN but its ages away.

Don't think my son will be ready for MB12 either yet.

Must get all his tests done soon.

By the way if you think this forum is conservative I went on one the other week and dared to mention ABA- was nearly lynched lol.

What tests are you getting done, if you dont mind me asking?

staryeyed · 18/10/2007 15:38

Well to start I'm convinced my son ahas viral/yeast issues or both. He too had a very distended belly but it has gone since the GFCF and enzymes. He also has constant sticky eye and colds/coughs and diarrhoea and foul smelling stools. A lot of it has improved with supplements. He still has manic laughter quite a lot.

So I will check him for those as well as allergy intolerance tests. Probably kidney functioning as well.

Good afternoon, my son has sensory integration dysfunction and a host of things associated with it, like delayed speech development. He also has had his share of inner ear infections, colds, coughs and yeast infections. All of that was always attributed to him being in a daycare and then on antibiotics to help with his infections (mind you - we're in USA - so he is put on antibiotics EVERY TIME he has an ear infection... so like at least once a month).

He's been bringing home reports saying that he has random diarrheas... and I was attributing that to the fact that he has very poor eating habits (food aversion due to his condition) and just doesn't get the right food...

I just read this post and went onto Amazon to read about the book that you call "biomed bible" - WOW... I think my son might really-really benefit. He is 20 month old but I think it's never too early (too late - maybe!).

Anyway, the point of this post is to say THANK YOU (I have already ordered the book) and to extend an offer - I am in USA so if any of you need anything shipped from USA, I'd be glad to do that for your children.

mamadadawahwah · 19/10/2007 07:00

Katendmom, i am pleased you found the book useful. McCandless has an updated version, but the older one is, in my opinion just as good and not much has changed.

20 months is NOT too early. I wish we had started at 20 months, we wouldnt have gone through the bowel and excema hell that we did, had we started then.

You are lucky being in the U.S. There are so many many knowledgeable parents who probably live close to you. Get their phone numbers if you can! I got my "biomed" degree on google, like so many other parents.

Ear infections, bowel probs, skin probs, they all come from some somewhere, they are not a natural result of "autism" as some silly doctors would like you to believe.

The gut provides 60 percent of the body's immunity and constant bowel problems leads to malnourishment and so many other things.

here is a fabulous american website written by a fabulous mom who has recovered her children from autism: www.danasview.net. You will find a ton of info here

Mmddww- what dosage of TF did you give your son? I have go the classic TF (to be careful of allergies etc) and will give him half which is the same as the recommended dose for the kids TF. Will that be enough?
