GDD AND AUTISM

Hi,
I’ve just had my sons assessment(he’s 3 years old) to see if he has autism I have very strong believes that he does, he’s non verbal, doesn’t socialise with children or adults he doesn’t know; won’t eat certain coloured food or touch certain textures, has bad eye contact (has improved sightly) but will choose to not look, very repetitive with his play and routine, and can go on haha,
When we had our final report they said he had DD but one team only assessed him for 4 hours and the paediatrician all for about 1 hour in only one month. There was a consultant in the meeting observing the paediatrician as he was a trainee and she kept making comments about growing out of it but she had never met my son? I don’t know how someone with however many qualifications could still even be able to make comments on someone you’ve never even met before. I don’t stand by their choice as they said it was development delay but it seems to be more to this than delay, would anyone know what’s route to go down next? Or have maybe gone through this and got some advice?
I really don’t want My son to be a child to slip through the net and not get the support he may need Sad

kelly are you in the U.K.? Have you spoken to your health visitor or GP about your son? If not then you definitely should.

The eating of non-food items is called pica.

Jslewin93 I’m sorry your post went unanswered. We’re you able to appeal against the diagnosis?

kellydowling8947 · 08/07/2020 20:06

Hi i am in the uk and he has been diagnose but they cant help him at the moment

openupmyeagereyes · 08/07/2020 20:26

Is that because of lockdown? When was he diagnosed?

Has he been assessed by a speech and language therapist?

I would see your GP and at least push for support for the speech issue and pica. There may be a parental course that you can go on such as EarlyBird.

If you google your local authority name and ‘local offer’ you will get some idea of what support is available.
