‘Talkability’ classes - helpful?

Hi there - my 7yr old son was diagnosed with high functioning autism (Aspergers) last summer. We’ve only just received an invite for ‘Talkability’ classes.

For context, my son’s ASD is very borderline - he appears like an NT child. His diagnosis only really reveals itself in school where he’s struggled to sit still/be quiet during lesson time (he’s a ‘class clown’ type of kid). He has many friends and does well in social situations with other children (just the usual squabbles, no violence or other extremes of stubbornness/inflexibility). At home, he’s fine - apart from a tendency to be overly silly sometimes and get distracted easily, he’s a good, happy, chilled-out kid who is fairly easy to parent.

The Talkability classes will take place during the work week but my husband and I work full-time. The classes are also a least a 45min journey away. My question is, are the classes helpful? I could arrange with work to take the time off to go but it will be very disruptive. His social communication is fine with us at home.

I don’t know about the course but you can buy the Hanen Talkability book on Amazon. That might give you an idea if the course is worth attending or if the book alone is enough for your needs.
