I very much think I need to try an antidepressant e.g. Prozac for my daughter whose anxiety is preventing her from being herself throughout the day.
If CAMHS say no, where do I go from there?

@Johnsonsfiat Hi, sorry to hear your daughter is experiencing anxiety. Does she have a diagnosis? When you say she is having difficulty getting through the day, is this at school/ at home or both?
What support is she currently getting from CAMHS? Is it helpful at all?

Some of the meds for anxiety and depression have been shown to make teenagers worse, not better - I think that's why they try not to prescribe.

How old is you dd and why is CAMHS not supporting it?

They do have to be very careful when prescribing anti-anxiety medications to children because there can be serious side effects (made ds2 suicidal and psychotic). Because of this they have to make sure there are really no alternative treatments your dd could access to help with her anxiety.

Our GP told us he would be struck off if he prescribed anti-anxiety medication to ds2 (eleven at the time) and after seeing the effect it had on him I can see why. This is not to say it is not right for some children (it does help some) but rather extreme care has to be taken and any side effects monitored carefully.
