DS has a complex set of needs, currently suspected :

  • Dyspraxia
  • sensory processing disorder
  • ASD
-ADHDA

Also diagnosed dyslexic and cognitively very bright but with significant working memory and processing speed difficulties (think 99th centile reasoning and comprehension, 5th centile working memory and processing speed)

We have just referred ourselves for a private diagnosis specifically for ASD and ADHD, but given that we are still waiting on a diagnosis for sensory processing disorder and dyspraxia are wondering whether we need to see two separate physicians or whether there is someone who will diagnose all?

He has seen OT for sensory processing but in our area they don't diagnose, only assess and treat symptoms so can't be in any help with following up on the SPD and dyspraxia issues.

Is it better to see two seperate specialists, or one who can give a full overview? We are wanting to apply soon for an EHCP as we believe he needs to be in a special school so want as much evidence behind us ASAP!

GOSH have a neurodevelopmental clinic that sounds like it could fit the bill, they are a multidisciplinary team. You would need a local consultant to refer you if you wanted to see if DS would be accepted on the NHS. They do take private patients too.
