Dd9 undiagnosed adhd- melatonin from internet?

Hello, my dd 9 has always been very spirited and oppositional. Adhd suspected.
Long wait for help, in the meantime life got really unbearable with sleep, she doesn't go off unless exhausted at 1.30 am and waking, and the knock on affect has been terrible, long term sleep deprivation for her and myself, refusing to dress or wash or get to school, even less concentration at school and on a hair trigger to meltdown ( hitting, destroying smashing etc) as she's so tired and miserable. Begged Gp for something to help but they can't prescribe.

So I was on a Facebook asd/ adhd page and a lot of people said they'd bought melatonin from America and it helped.

I got her the childrens gummies and bloody hell, the difference is amazing. Such a relief- asleep by 9/10pm calmly, and the knock on effect is becoming evident, she's cheerful and will dress and wash, she's proudly bringing back work from school and we are beginning to have fun together, not just surviving.

Am I wrong to do this. We were so desperate. This is a light in the dark.
It's not available in uk but in other countries it's available over the counter.

We can't go back to that half life- nothing else worked ( cherry juice, magnesium, warm milk, soothing music, same routine, etc) she was hyper and hysterical, talking at speed and flapping about.
Now it's calm and loving, story and cuddles. So lovely.

Your paediatrician can prescribe melatonin, unfortunately it didn't work for my DD as she had very rare side effects so we have to use alternate therapies, ask for some at your next Paed appointment - you're not wrong to want some normality, and they should want to be able to regulate the amount you're giving your DD.

Good luck!

How long has your daughter been on the pathway. My son is in year 5 and going for the Qb test next month, the wait after is a year + for diagnosis. Its so awful, especially if you are finding life so hard. How do you no how much dose to give. We are coping with my son at the minute as he isn't hyer all the time but his school work is really struggling and behind, as he cant concentrate and gets so distarcted, i feel about time he gets a diagnosis and maybe medication he will be heading off to high school 😥

We've been asking for help for 3 years but because I and my husband were separated and in family court ( not amicable) they wouldn't do anything until all that was over. ( unsettled family life can cause similar behaviour)
Now we are only just starting and I am on my own .
I just gave her one gummie as recommended on the packet. It's 2mg so quite low.
It really is helping, and with no appointment in sight I feel I must make this decision for our sanity.

Yeah i don't blame you, will try anything to help your kids. The whole pathway process is ridiculous. How hard it is to get on it and then the wait. Fingers crossed we get somewhere soon 🤞

You have done what you need to do to right now. Don’t beat yourself up. 2mg is the standard starting dose according to DS’s consultant. It’s sold freely in the rest of Europe and in the USA, just our regs over here. Sleep makes such a huge difference to everything, you’re doing great xx

How easy is it to buy? My son doesn’t sleep well at all, takes hours to settle him and then I can’t get him up in the morning and he’s grumpy and more bad tempered than usual
Diagnosis of adhd awaiting paediatrician convinced, am exhausted
