School options for my 11 yr old Son ... help!!

Hi, we are currently based in Hong Kong, looking to relocate back to the UK in the summer to be based around the South Oxfordshire / Berkshire area to support my 11 year old son has ADHD and a more recent diagnosis of being moderately on the spectrum.

He is an active kid (rugby, sailing, football etc) currently in mainstream education, but starting to fall behind. We can stretch to private education for the right set up, does anyone have any experience or recommendations for mainstream schools that can support these areas, with a ton of sport and a high level of pastoral care? there seems a lot who say they can help, but in reality can not !

Thank you

I don't know of any offhand, but it might be worth trying the National Autistic Society and ADHD support groups.

Hi laporoch,

I don't know the schools in the area you are moving to but have used this site to help us identify options for our child. I hope it gives you a starting point like it did for us. www.senschoolsguide.com/find-sen-schools

Thanks smorgas. I haven't heard about this site before but it looks great! All other school search sites don't seem to include specific SEN information or just include it as a necessary but neglected section...

laporoch don't get discouraged! Our boy with ADHD has just gone into Year 7 in a great independent school in Surrey! Good independent schools are very competitive and it wasn't easy to get in - I won't lie. And, as you say, it was next to impossible to actually know what the schools we visited are like... They are seem great on paper... In reality... they just smile and push you away. So sad. The school we went for is amazing, nurturing and supportive, despite being very competitive. Is Surrey not an option for you?

Hi, are you able to say which school this is?
