My teen autistic son, had a seizure on Friday I’m hoping it was his first and last it was on his mobility bus to school.

Has anyone had any experience with seizures and autism (my son is low function but verbal can’t express feelings but can basic needs )

Minds still reeling 😖

Hi, I have an autistic son 7yrs old he is going through assessments for epilepsy. It is scary. I dont know what to think myself as he is having absent seizures. What is your biggest worry?

Hi there thanks so much for the reply when he was younger I thought he was having absent seizures as sometimes he would go blank just switch off and then do random things like take his clothes off when we are just about to leave the house, but he was checked and had an EGG? and I was told it’s just his autism (he is low fiction) that was in 2012
But last week he had a full on seizure as in the shaking one, it was a first, it happened on the mobility school bus I’m worried more about these full ones and the effect on his development, could I lose him to a fit (they look terrifying ) He also vomited after, just my mind is going to worse case scenarios what happens if he has one in his sleep I literally have to stop thinking about it in order to control my anxiety. I have a friend who’s son has absent seizures and he is doing well and she’s coping well working and getting on with things he son is now at college he didn’t know he’s alphabet at 10 so he really has come a long way and it is a positive story for me to look towards, I spoke to her last week and she said he hadn’t had a seizure for over a year I remember him having them two to three times a day so his meds are working for him

Hello, seizures can be dangerous only due to circumstances around the person that has it. Im worried about mine too when he is on a bike as could fall into sthg etc. I had my first appointment with doc only 2 weeks ago and she said sometimes EEG does not capture as it is a lot due to timing. Perhaps if you speak with your GP and get another assessment with a scan. I dont know your boy of course but perhaps as he is bigger now having full scan would not be as stressful for him? In the meantime minimise activities that could increase a risk and please do not stress, you sound like a wonderful mum Flowers
