My child’s Senco applied for ENF on behalf of my child for additional support . I have been told that when the application was made all the professionals involved agreed this wasn’t a child that needed 1:1 but a child who needs psychiatric help and has been through some trauma. ! We jumped quickly to another discussion and I didn’t get to go back to clarify what I was just told. What does this mean exactly ? I mean I know what it means but what are they saying? My child has dx of ASD in mainstream school and repeatedly in trouble and facing exclusion. I have been fighting to keep him in school and we do all work together most of the time. However that comment has really thrown me! I’m going to discuss again this week. In the last three meetings they have asked me if eveything is ok at home. I did tell them during this meeting , just before they made the trauma comment that my sons father my ex had been particularly difficult lately and added some pressure to the family dynamics but that’s all. Anyone have any advice on how to follow this up . Thank you.

Ask for a copy of the application and the reports used in putting it together.

Are you sure that applying for ENF is the way to go? It's a bit hit and miss, and if it is granted there is no guarantee that it will stay in place. If your child qualifies for ENF then it is highly likely that he qualifies for an EHC Plan, which has the advantage that there has to be a full assessment first, and that, once it is in place, the council has a statutory duty to provide all the support specified in the Plan and it can't be withdrawn arbitrarily without you having a right of challenge.
