Hanen book

Hi, I've seen the Hanen book mentioned before as being expensive but good for toddlers with a speech delay. Just wondering if it would be suitable for my DS (waiting for asd assessment) as he is verbal with a big vocabulary and can use short sentences, or it is more for getting started with talking?
My main worry about his speech are that our conversations are quite short and repetitive, he likes repeating known phrases and lines from books, and sometimes describing what he sees. He's also confuses pronouns.
Also there are two titles I think, any recommendations for one over the other? (More than words and It takes two to talk)
Thank you x

Hi OP - we used It Takes Two as recommended by my DSis who's a SALT. Our issue was sound production (ie saying words correctly) rather than language/conversation issues, but I remember it has lots of tips about generating conversation eg using OWL (observe, wait, listen - I think!) etc.

So from what I can remember it was helpful for a child who is already talking.

I sold my copy on eBay a while back, and there were a few for sale IIRC, so you might pick up a copy on there for a bit less than full price.

More Than Words covers 4 stages of communication (from children who are not talking to those who can carry on short conversations), what they call: the own agenda stage, the requester stage, the early communicator stage and The Partner Stage. Each chapter is divided into these 4 stages. It’s a really good manual on communication.

I can’t speak for It Takes Two as I don’t have that. I do also have Talkability which is for older children with ASC who are already quite verbal but still have social difficulties.

Thank you both.

Good idea to look on eBay
