My son is going through autism diagnosis at the moment. A lot of kids with autism we have met So far are very quiet and prefer to play alone, I’ve not met anyone like my son yet... Hes age 3 is very happy and a bit eccentric.

He will burst into the play room and shout “hi guys I’m here” in the loudest expressive voice... he will walk around everybody at wave and shout “hello” in their face or high five/fist bump them. He will also walk up to the bins/doors/windows and say “hello, how are you?” And high five it

He likes to play but doesn’t yet know how to start off a game and doesn’t like people coming too close unless on his terms.

Although his social behaviour is a bit off the wall, he can read, write and is obsessed by numbers.

Anyone experience similar behaviour? I wonder how he will progress as he becomes older

There is a saying, "If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism." Just as all children are different, all children with autism are different.

This might help if you have not seen it already.

Your son sounds delightful OP.

Hi op, my son is 5 and recently dx with ASC. Likewise he is not shy or retiring at all!! Your description of your son entering the room and announcing he's here - that's literally something my son does, often!

My son is very warm and outgoing, but nonetheless socially inappropriate. He dominates conversations, struggles to take turns, and melts down due to misunderstandings and perceived slights/injustices from others.

If you get a dx now st age 3, that will be a positive thing and stand you in good stead
