Anyone else waiting on DLA decision?

I applied for dla for my dd who is 16 months old and has Hemiplegia. Form went off 6th July and apart from the acknowledgment we haven't heard a thing. What can possibly take that that long? It's driving me crazy with worry as I'm certain they'll refuse us and we'll end up going to appeal etc so I just want to get on with it. Does anyone know if you are more likely to get refused if they take ages to make the decision?

ime there does not seem to be any link between length of time & decision. DS2's claim took about 4 months, they refused at first, we asked them to reconsider & he was awarded.
Its a long process but the back-dated payment was a nice lump sum.

I'm waiting on a renewal decision.

It can take forever jenkey. Our initial application took almost a year from start to appeal although that wasn't the norm.

My ds1 has Hemiplegia. I seem to remember us waiting ages. I think the wait might mean they are gathering reports/info from paed/docs etc. hope you don't wait too much longer.

There doesn't seem to be a link. Ds1's first claim only took a few weeks and he was awarded DLA. Ds2's first claim took so long that when it was awarded it had to be backdated by around 6mths. I think they tell you on the helpline to expect it to take around 11 weeks.

Good luck!

i think the rule is that you always get the letter on a saturday so you can't complain until monday! on here it is known as the Davros rule.
good luck.

thanks everyone - it's pants isn't it? they really do need to just get on with it, they did initially request a cosultant report but told us when it had arrived so should have everything they need. I'm a bit concerned as the consultant is a real 'look on the bright side' person - which is fine but she tends to play down dd's difficulties and I'm sure she doesn't have a clue about everything we go through on a day by day (and night by night) basis. From everything I've heard here, the DLA process seems to be entirely arbitrary and based on some unknown factor rather than on the actually needs of the child. AARRG! I keep checking post every morning excitedly - at least it's dd1's birthday on thursday so there might be some cards in the post to make up for it. I hate rubbish post, today I had... la redoute catalogue, pizza hut leaflet, and 'to the occupier' letter from norwich union or something.

well i have lost count of how many DLA forms i have had to do for my three, my twin girls get different rates, one got it until she was 16 the other got it until she was 12, DS got top rate both for 12 years until he is 16. give up trying to work them out!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/08/2007 11:02

Well the rule of Davros didn't hold true for us this time. Letter came today and it was Good News. Considering last time's marathon application I'm over the moon

US"

Went off 14 July.

Still waiting.

onlyjoking9329 · 17/08/2007 11:06

glad you got good news without the battle.
it is saturday tomorrow so nearly right

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/08/2007 11:19

Yeah - I think the postie got his days mixed up!

Expat - dd's claim last time took almost a year. It was very stressful but the backpayment was lovely.

I was in such a good mood this morning that I said dd could have her birthday pressie early. An electric guitar - a moment of DLA induced madness I think!!

I know that when we applied it said on the acknowledgement letter can take 8 weeks and basically not to call before then

DT3 took initially 18 weeks to be awarded low rate but we appealed which took a further 20 weeks and WON!! got high rate care and mobility

DT2 took 17 weeks initially and was refused again went to appeal and was awarded middle care

It is a very long drawn out process and I think very draining
