Dear mums...

While researching I came across wonderful ABA schools but in different cities...which means we have to move out...

www.abaa4all.com/schools-list-1

I am.considering relocating to another city ...but not sure how easy would that be with LA and EHCP?

Are all local.authorities operate in the same way with EHCP?

I spoke to the Lawyer: Liz Smith from Watkins sollicitors early this year and she saud that LA of Bristol is one of the best in the country who generously fubd ABA compared to other cities...

Autism is a long life condition and I have 2 autistic kids...so i dont mind moving out to another city...

Can you advise me or share your experience if you had to relocate?

Autism is so unpredictable...and so our life...

Help me pls..

Within local authority should be no problem as long as the school you want (a) has places and (b) agrees that they can meet needs and (c) Is the type named in the EHCP i.e. special or mainstream and (d) is LA funded . You might have an issue with LA transport if no longer the closest suitable school.

If you change LA then they have the right to review the EHCP but must maintain the EHCP as it stands until that point and you would have the right to appeal if you disagree with any changes.

When we enquired about schools in a new county they would not even discuss it with us until the move had actually happened other than send us a list of schools. In actual fact as the move collapsed for other reasons I can see why. There is no guarantee a new authority will fund the school or provision you want even within area (note independent schools count as out of area even if they lie withing the boundaries of the LA) and I would make sure there are likely to be places before you move - a school that has a good reputation for children with an ASC is likely to be over-subscribed.
