Auditory Processing Disorder - best treatment

I suspect my 8 yo DD has APD. She has not been specifically diagnosed as such, but 2 speech therapists and 1 ed psych have flagged up weaknesses in auditory word memory, comprehension, expression, vocabulary, processing oral directions. Her behaviour, communication and academic performance are consistent with the description of APD.

I'd like to look into it further. Would anyone have recent recommendations as to which are the best approaches / treatments / centres. I have just been looking through past threads on this topic and see that the Sound Learning Centre in London and Sensory Clinic Reading are both recommended.

Many thanks to the mum that contacted me privately to share her experience.

My son also had this and was diagnosed by Dr. Tony Sirimanna at Great Ormond Street. Would highly recommend you get a referral to him. www.gosh.nhs.uk/our-people/staff-z/tony-sirimanna

My son knows this is a problem for him which mitigates it. He is bright and he has perfect hearing but the APD causes problems with the way he interprets sound. It's made him understand it's not "him" - just something he has to deal with.

My son is now 19 and has gone through a lot but he's finished A level and is going to university. He's also lovely! Although there are remedies, just the sense of knowing what the challenge is was most important for him. It also was important for his teachers and getting extra time with exams, scribes, readers, etc. which enabled him to get the exam results he needs to get to where he wants to go.

Your instincts are always right and I would definitely get an appointment with Dr. Sirimanna. Good luck! :-)

Many thanks Radoy. Great to know how your son has dealt with it. That is very encouraging.
