Pushchair help!?

Hi all,

DS1 has cerebral palsy and is 2 years 4 months, I also have DS2 who is 4 months.

At the moment we use an icandy peach however DS1 is starting to outgrow this and he cannot walk. I know usually they will go into a special needs buggy or wheelchair next but as I have another little one I am not sure whether they make buggies for a child with SEN plus a sibling?

Can anyone help with this or had a similar situation? Or if anyone has a recommendation for another tandem pushchair which may be bigger? DS2 will be 6 months by then so can sit in a normal seat and won't need a carrycot.

Thank you
Xxx

I’m in a similar position and wondered the same thing. My dc1 is just about to turn 2 and my dc2 is 4 and half months. We have a 2nd hand phil and ted navigator which is brilliant. Plenty of room for dc1. I don’t think I’d feel very comfortable putting a baby 1 yr+ in the back for an extended period of time even though you can.

My plan is to push for a physio referral so we can discuss it because even if he walks tomorrow he’s still going to need to go in the buggy for a good while.

It’s been a while since I was looking at buggies but I seem to remember mountain buggies having a quite high weight limit and breing quite spacious. Bit of a random suggestion but if you know/see any childminders they might have an idea, they often have wonderful buggies, there’s one round here I see with a quad buggy which seems fine for toddlers of all shapes and sizes!!

@KissyThief I'm panicking about it too! I don't like the thought of the side by side ones as I can imagine them to be a nightmare to get around with so really looking for a tandem but just cannot seem to find one big enough, DS1 is not even big for his age but is already outgrowing most! We are seeing his physio on Thursday so I will ask and let you know if I come out with any good ideas. I did think about a buggy board but he gets so tired he really needs somewhere to sleep!

@0ddsocks thanks, will keep an eye out.

I found a side by side buggy much easier to steer once the kids were a bit older & heavier. Big wheels made a huge difference to how easy a buggy was to push with my 5 year old in it too. For that reason alone I would look at mountain buggy/nipper or if you want inline phil and teds.

I also see the baby jogger city mini recommended a lot for older/taller children.

There are a few SN options around as well, something like this www.ebay.co.uk/i/254304919427

For me it was a case of trying out a few options to find what worked, there are bargains to be had on the local selling sites and at least that way you don't loose much reselling ones which didn't work out.

@gigglingHyena thanks I will have a look at those, side by side look bigger but being in London I already struggle getting through doorways with my tandem one that I would be too worried to get a side by side!

I'm looking at a Phil and teds tomorrow so fingers crossed - it looks slightly bigger than mine
