My dd gets middle rate care but no mobility as too young. We got the £42 per year tax credits as we earn about £32000 between us. I rang and told them last week that dd was getting dla middle rate and this is now upto £102 per month. I thought you only get more if you get higher rate care. Anyone think this sounds too much. I would rather challenge it now than owe loads back.

Why don't you ring them and ask over the phone if it is right. Then you can alter it if it's wrong sooner rather than later.

I thought (could be wrong) that you get some extra for middle, and more for higher? (we get higher though so could be confused)

'Child Tax Credit
An extra amount may be included in your Child Tax Credit award for any child within your family who gets either component of DLA, or is registered blind, or who has been taken off the blind register in the last 28 weeks. It is paid in addition to the child element for that child.

You may also be awarded a severe disability element for each child in your family who gets the highest rate of the care component of DLA. This is paid in addition to the child element and the disability element for that child.'

yeah, think i am right

yes, you get quite a bit extra for having a child who gets DLA

we couldnt believe the amount we first got and rang them to make sure!

Then if your child gets high rate DLA for care, I think you get about an extra £1000 (ish) on top of it also

we didnt realise you got even more if your child is on high rate, we are still paying for it now as we didnt tell them when our DD's went from high to middle (didnt realise we had to)

so its ok what you are getting as long as they know its middle and not high rate you get

yes...correct...we only have mid rate dla.

they also calculate it from start of tax year- and then spread it out through months left till next april...so tecnichally...you could have 12 months of tax credit increase paid to you in over say 8 months....causing the monthy ammount to be higher than what youd get next year...as then it would spraed over the 12 months

so that could be why it seems high?

does that make sense!!!!!!???????????????

so just check they know its only mid rate care...check they have the right dates for it to start from....you may get MORE!!!!! if they have not got the date right!
