So...Background. Just turned 16yr old DS. Finished mainstream school this year and just got GCSE results of 1 and 2 for four subjects as he couldn't cope with doing any more then that.
Applied for EHCP in 2017 and was assessed but turned down. School implemented EVERYTHING the Ed Psyche recommended at great cost to their own budget. He still didn't cope hence the grades above. He had a 1-2-1 throughout.
EHCP applied for again Feb 2019 and again denied as the panel feel College will be able to meet his needs.
I immediately decided on appealing and have contacted a solicitor who has quoted me approx £6000 to get to trial.
In the meantime thanks to the complaint I submitted to the Local Authority about the assessment not being adequate (i.e they didn't ask for any extra reports despite the EP putting in her report that DS other issues need assessing as they are impacting upon him), they are now paying for an independent OT Sensory assessment.
I am paying for a SALT as although DS has no problems with speaking he has developed a stammer. I have also requested a Section 17 child in need assessment.
So...to my problem.....
Realistically is it worth it? If I get an EHCP after spending all this money, is it really going to help as he probably won't have it for a length of time. Would it be better to pay for private therapy for his anxiety, sensory and dyspraxia...
I am also just at a complete loss as to what could go into the EHCP to help him as he refuses all help.
DS is very resistant to help, to the extent he would get very aggressive with his LSA at school so she had to be removed from him. But that then means he doesn't complete any work.
He has absolutely no motivation to do well and his self esteem is rock bottom.
I have tried to get him to go to social groups but he refuses. I have tried online groups - refuses.
I am just thinking, for a child who doesn't want to do anything except sit on his laptop in his bedroom, is it really worth me fighting for an EHCP and if so, what things could go into it.
