Advice re Down's Syndrome

I hope it's ok to post here - I’m looking for some advice. Good friends of ours have just given birth to a baby who’s been diagnosed with Down’s syndrome & they’re both still in shock. I’m just wondering if there’s anything that is particularly helpful for us to say or do, or anything that is the wrong thing to say or do?

We’ve said congratulations & can’t wait to meet the baby but wasn’t sure if there’s anything else? Baby is still in hospital but hopefully getting out soon & we're looking forward to visiting when she's home. TIA.

I am not sure what the right thing to day is. The baby will probably have a long road ahead if heart problems.
We have been lucky to have DC with downs syndrome between family and friends, they are beautiful kind loving affectionate funny DC.
The baby will bring some challenges but lots of love.
It take special parents to raise them, most DC go to mainstream school.
DD has a class friend in school with downs he is a little older but the coolest kid in school, great dancer, great footballer adored by all.

Thanks @EmeraldShamrock - that's good to know about mainstream school as I didn't realise that.

Baby is still in hospital and they're doing heart scans at the minute, so I guess they'll know more after that.

Congratulations to your friends.
We have adopted 4 with Down Syndrome 3 are now youngish adults and one has sadly died (inoperable heart condition)
The oldest one has developed epilepsy but is such a likeable person and is very popular.
The two girls have part time jobs one works in the library encouraging children to read (she reads fluently) and helps people from care homes to choose books. The youngest helps in a care home and also works in a small film studio.
Both girls were born with quite serious heart issues (repaired) and still see cardiologists. Went to mainstream school and got 2 GCSE'S (not A*!)
Not a stealth boast but just saying life has been good and so much fun

Thank you @Mynamenotaccepted - great to hear how well your DCs are doing, although so sorry for your loss also.
