Hi everyone.

I am writing here to know if anybody else knows or has a child that acts like mine. My 4 1/2 years old son has always been a spirited and hyperactive child. He can be very sweet and smart, but also acts like crazy at time. Right now, he is in a phase that he acts silly all the time and just screams so loud. He will make funny faces ans strange voices while screaming. Its almost like he thinks it's funny and acts like a comedian. He will screams in our ears. Climb on us. Run on us while screaming and making strange/funny shouts. He's like an animal and it's unbearable.

I tried explained him it is not a way to act. People won't want to play with him. It hurts mommy's ears. It will hurt his voice. He just had kept going for months. I really cannot wait he grows out of it because I cannot stand it and I loose it sometimes. Its like an agression and he does it many many times a day and it can lasts for 10-15 minutes at least.

Also, he has a stuttering so we see a speech pathologist since 3 months. She also said he has a husky voice and asked us if he screams a lot. She said his voice his like a teenager when their voices break during puberty. It could hurt him long term. He also has a speech delay.

I suspect he has an ADHD since he is 2 years old. The only thing though is that he can concentrate on a task for a long time. But for the rest, he checked all the boxes. Very high energy, cannot control himself, agressive, impatience, fidgetiness, sensory problem, cannot play alone, restless, cannot sit for dinner, talk non-stop and interrupt everyone, jump/climb on everything and the silliness/screaming, doesn't follow directive, speech delay but very advanced in motor skills.

He's on a list to see a psychoeducator and occupational therapist.

But really for now, the silliness/screaming is the most unbearable part. It is really not fun and frustrating to be around when he starts going coucou like this.

Any advices please?

That's called hyperfocus and is common with ADHD and other conditions.

Whereabouts are you, the terms speech pathologist and psychoeducator aren't commonly used in the UK. ADHD isn't diagnosed in the UK until a child is much older.

It sounds as though some of his sensory issues could be causing some of the behaviour, is there anything here that may help,

Have you had his hearing checked, to make sure the screaming isn't just his way of trying to hear his own voice?

Hi Blanktimes! Sorry for using the wrong terms! I am from Canada and my main langage is French, so my translation could be poor!

I did an hearing test, everything is ok!

Thank you for the link, it's sounds very interesting. I really feel he gets silly with the screaming when he is excited. Example, every time his father comes back from work or when we annonce we are leaving the house to make an activity.

It's almost like he is acting! A lot of people told me I should put him in drama class. He is very expressive. I see him sometimes looking at himself in the mirror and he just makes silly faces and funny noises. He likes to change his voice. The thing is he gets too loud and becomes out of hand. He gets so excited!!!
