Pre school report for ds with ASC, feeling disheartened

Hi- we’ve just got the end of year report for my ds who is 5 in September and due to start reception full time in sept with 121 support in place.
He is scoring 16 c in most of the ages and stages catergories on the EYFS scoring. It’s pretty tough seeing it in black and white. There are some amazing and positive messages in the report and I feel that the school and staff have gone over and above to support him. I’m just sad to see how delayed he is. Has anyone got any positive stories of children with ASC picking up academically. I’m worrying now that specialist provision would have been a better choice (bit of moot point as EHCP hasn’t been set up yet- paperwork due to be sent in September, edpsych assessment is complete).

Try not to worry. My son with asd just finsished recepction class. He started in 22 months section emerging. Hes just finsished reception class in expected for all 17 elg. School is very different to pre school. In preschool my son wasn't pushed into doing things he didn't really like doing like writing ect in school they have to push them to do it which makes a difference.

My ds is 10 years old now and has really surprised me. He still needs extra help in the classroom with his work but he is doing amazingly well. A few years ago he was struggling with reading and writing. I was really worried. He will always require extra time and may do better typing rather than writing but he is really impressing his teachers with the progress he is making.

Also, when he started primary school all he would draw was a circle, he refused to draw. For years his art work was very messy. Now he is obsessed with art and has become very good. He is drawing all the time and I am just amazed by how he has progressed.

I worry about secondary school but his teachers tell me I don't have to worry.
